Key Largo Sunset

I'm not one to paint a sunset. Such a cliche, you know. But someone on FB gave me  the idea of using the Daily Paintworks challenges as ideas for paintings and I kind of like that.  And it's good to paint the things you avoid. This is inspired from a photo taken last summer.

Bean Balance

I made a quick trip to the farmer's market and bought this guy's last green beans.  They weren't the best ones there, but he went out of his way to say "Hi" and that counts.  And I felt like he believed in his green beans.

Beach Read

I haven't posted to the 30/30 for a few days, but that doesn't mean I haven't been painting.  I may be done with this one... or if I turn it to the wall and then look at it in a few days and then, well, tweak.  We went to the Florida Keys this summer and stayed a a place with a shaded beach. It was a dream.  One could lounge there sipping umbrella drinks indefinitely. I took some photos of this woman who was reading aloud to the helpless body beside her.

Farmer's Market Bouquet

You would think I might use my time more wisely. Nope! I went to the farmer's market right before it closed to grab something to paint.  This bouquet had some spectacular flowers, but I realized that the star of the show had a broken stem - already lurching forward.  I don't think it will last long.  And, true to MOA, I didn't start painting until late.  Can't help it. I like to paint at night.

Summer Porch

Such a great day! I've been painting with some very fun ladies this summer. Today we painted at my friend Margie's brother's house, which turned out to be a spot I've been admiring  for the last 30 or so years.  Most of my plein air paintings are referred to as "studies", but  I kind of like this one.

Circus Freak

Hello old blog!  I haven't seen you since the last "30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge... Lots of life events since then, but no excuses for neglecting this.  Anyway, here I go again ;-) I have a heirloom tomato plant that is producing monsters.  They are huge - weigh as much as a newborn!  And they're not pretty in the traditional sense, but I love them as only a mother could.

Afternoon Tango

I am still processing our trip to Argentina. We were there last July - summer here, winter there.  Most of the days were grey and drizzly. I wore a hoodie and bought a cheap umbrella. On one of the few days of  sunshine I sat in the plaza in front of our hotel and watched a couple practice their tango moves. They take tango very seriously there. In most of the restaurants or bars we visited,  we were treated to a tango show, for tips  of course. It was really stunning and beautiful and full of the passion that you would imagine.  Watch a tango, sip a malbec - what could be better?
